Edgy + Urban Downtown Spokane Senior Portraits: 2020 Senior Models
Kenna, Ava, Elli, and Irie, my 2020 models, were my urban downtown adventure buddies this past winter and we seriously had a blast exploring the corners of this underrated spot in Spokane.
Not only did we capture some rad photos inside the amazing Boulevard Mercantile (which is one of the best vintage goods stores in Spokane…I mean they have an insane collection of vintage graphic tees + Levi jeans….shall I say more?), but we also hit up a local guitar shop and found some of the most Instagram-worthy spots in Spokane with the coolest graffiti walls/murals. Shoutout to the random insurance company that showed us the private backroads that lead to our new favorite spot!
I love how each girl found their own little corner of the Garland district and identified with different elements - Kenna even found a parked Harley (don’t worry, we didn't touch 😉) that we couldn’t pass up for some motorcycle portraits.
My Spokane Senior Model program is one of my favorite aspects of my business because it provides so many opportunities for community, creativity, and friendship. These girls all met through the model program and now are friends - they have weekly Monday Bachelor nights, so that’s how you know it’s real.
Most of my summer senior portraits are focused on nature, flowers, golden tones, sunshine, open fields, lakes, etc., so it’s always nice to mix things up and include a few different elements into our sessions.
A perk of doing winter or spring senior portraits? 1) Way less people! Sidewalks, trails, fields, and popular locations are way less busy and it makes it 100 times easier for us to take control of the space and get creative. 2) The whether in Spokane can be tricky, but the 2nd perk is my schedule is WAY more flexible - if it’s expected to be pouring rain or snowing during our shoot, we can easily reschedule to a new location or date, since the late fall, winter, and early-spring are my “off-seasons.” 3) CLOTHES - I often have seniors that want photos in jeans, sweaters, heavy jackets, boots, etc. but they tend not to bring them during their summer session because it’s so hot. Through I always recommend bringing them just for a few photos, the fall or spring certainly provide more opportunities for layers!
